This poster was created to advertise the magazine Ten Years to Go: The Magazine for Survival. Sadly, the magazine was never published, making this the only remaining evidence that it was ever going to happen. Frankly, now it's just a kitschy bit of humor for your wall.

    Dan Reisinger

    10th Maccabiah Games.

    $300.00

    Year: 1976.

    Size: 30 x 45 inches

For the summer running of the 10th Maccabiah Games -- Israel's Olympics -- Reisinger creates another dynamic image: a stylized red running figure superimposed on the country's symbolic Star of David in blue. Reisinger once again employs the use of elongated triangular elements, this time to the end of evoking the speed and excitement of the athletic competition.

Dan Reisinger is Israel's top graphic artist. He established his own design studio in Tel Aviv in 1961 and began a prolific career as a poster artist and painter. In step with his country's dynamic development, Reisinger's design activities have expanded to include corporate entities, packaging, sign systems, supergraphics, exhibition and environmental design.

A biplane soars above, a speedboat zooms below: this is a maquette for a poster advertising the 12th Auto, Boat and Plane Meeting in Monaco. It's a relatively obscure show, but a documentary film was made of the 6th Meeting, in 1909; it's likely the War intervened during the originally scheduled 12th annual meet, and was picked up after the Armistice.

    1e Exposition d’Art Décoratif. 1894.
Grasset created the first poster for the first annual show of decorative arts. It was the beginning of a movement that culminated in 1925 with a widely acclaimed exhition that introduced Art Deco as a major trend in a wide field of applied arts. At this early stage, Grasset represents Art Deco as a lightly draped nude, manipulating flowering branches, hinting at Art Deco's preoccupation with themes from nature as ornamental elements.

This flock of eagles looks like a single bird, in stop-motion sequence, alighting to the air, inspired by the plane careening toward the edge of the frame. Much in keeping with the Italian political climate of the 1930s, this poster for the first Milanese air show is both stately and aggressive, with a palpable weight and mass to the objects shown. This is the smaller, French-text format version of the poster.

    A Century of Olympic Posters

    $40.00

    Softcover

    8 1/2 x 11 inches.

Since the early Twentieth Century, posters have heralded the Olympic Games, whetting our appetite and shaping our expectations of the event that is to come. With their broad popular appeal and ability to project eye-catching and memorable imagery, posters have offered an ideal means of communications for the Games. This book sets the posters in the context of the Olympic Games that they announce and celebrate, including memorable images for Berlin 1936, London 1948, Barcelona 1992 and Sydney 2000. This 144-page book published by V & A Publishing, London, features 148 color illustrations of not only offial posters for both Olympic and Winter Olympic Games, but also posters for some early, alternative or cancelled games, as well as related ephemera and contextual photographs. Viewed together, the posters in this book create a rich pictorial narrative, capturing the distinctive characteristics of former games and the essence of their times.
